Science =/ technology. Europe was also coming up with long-distance trade
arrangements, joint stock companies, patents, literacy sufficiently diffused
to support Royal Societies, etc. etc. etc... a host of social and economic
"enablers" that encouraged people to puruse and apply science more
systematically and on far larger scales.
