Just for your files, here's an excerpt from The Mobius Trip, by Penelope
Rugke:

"Normally reclusive poets (not unheard of in the Brown/RISD arena) graced us
with their quiet presence. My favorite waiter, an out-of-work alternative
journalist who called himself "The Royce", swore he'd served quail au grace
to none other than Thomas Pynchon, but I think he was mistaken. It's not
hard to find lots of people who look like Thomas Pynchon if you're
frequenting Providence, Northampton, Cambridge, New Haven, and Ayre. In
fact, you would have to make an effort not to see someone you'd mistake for
Thomas Pynchon. Still, The Royce's assumption that he MIGHT have served
Thomas Pynchon rather proves the point of how popular our place had become.
I know that John Hawkes drank his way through half a dozen Sunday brunches
surrounded by adoring, acolytic students. More than once Louise Gluck
dropped in on our Friday wine/cheese/poetry festivals, though she never read
and rarely spoke to anyone. She made good headway through the Beaujolais,
though..."
