frog calling contest

Segment on NPR yesterday:
There is a species of frog that lives in the secret hollows of trees --
the rotted branch bases, punky boles and crotches, etc. These frogs
tune their peepy croaks to the resonant frequency of the cavity,
working methodically up a scale of sorts until they hit the sweet spot.
Cavity resonates, amplifies frog song, and the ladies swoon.

Why did Aristophanes think frogs quack? Was he afflicted, as was our P,
