Does anyone have a copy of the Japanese interview in which Mr. Pynchon did 
indeed respond to the chicken question?  I remember that the general 
translation read something like "Any chicken will cross the road in the rain 
if, Sufficient unto himself and uninformed by Historical Precedent, the 
chicken believes, however Misled, that the Sky is or may be about to fall, or 
so the Frogs chorused."
