GR Newbie Question

Hi All

Just wanted to say hello as I am just new to the
list. I just read a section within GR that
I am unterly confused and disturbed by yet 
I would like to get opinions on it's possible
meanings and implications...

The section in question is when Katje(?) and 
Brigadier Pudding are in a ritualist bondage
scenario in "Un Perm' au Casino" 269-274 in the 
Bantam edition. Is there more going on here
than just a control of Pudding? I have lost
track of the history of Pudding other than
his involvement with "the White Visitation".
Why does Pointsman go to such extremes?
or is it one of those questions that will 
be answered later?

So sorry about this but I really am baffled
and wanted to get some outside help.
