Hey, Morris do us a favor and remind us what context
you plucked that out of. I've generally been good
enough to speak of the racisms in Tolkien's texts or
somesuch, vs. racism on Tolkien's part. It's an
imporatnt differentiation, and if I slipped, I
slipped. Typing is not easy for me, not for long, not
when one goes to the pains that I do not to slip into
inaccuarate abbreviations of what I'd actually like to
get across, and the past several days have been fast
'n' furious for me here ...
On the other hand, I'm also tired of all this feigned
self-righteous indignation of you 'n' yrs allegedly on
behalf of, this time 'round, John Ronald Reuel
Tolkien, but actually in the service of this bizarre
and all-too-ongoing smear campaign of Robert's. At
any rate, Tolkien hardly needs to be defended for
something he's not being accused of from one of his
actual fans here. And I do believe Moorcock's right,
at a latter, more sensitive (not "politically
correct," but more conscious) time, Tolkien himself,
all around decent guy that he seems to have been, well
have thought twice, erased once, and retyped before
putting certain charged terms on paper ...

No, okay, I think I recall this. Think "Tolkien's
racism"--"Tolkien's 'racism'"--as indeliberate,
unconscious, a matter of (imprialist, colonialist,
European) cultural context (again, cf. Kingsley Amis'
comment about villains 'n' foreigners in the Bond
novels), of literary tradition, et al. As I've been
arguing all along. And you know this, so ...
