If I was pretending you wouldn't have seen it. I chose not to
continue along the literary tact, but to highlight how different
the world has become since Cervantes and Melville, and even GR,
for that matter. The change has outpaced the ability of society
to deal with it ethically before it is too late.

You are sounding a rather extreme note, here. I entered this thread
lamenting that "bio-technology" in this case genetic engineering, could
not be stopped. I am not so unsympathetic to those that fear
where it's leading us all, though, to merely dismiss them as something other
than human. The men and women in Blicero's entourage seem to have
had more freedom than those of us who are concerned by recent
developements in bio-technology, despite the voluminous amount of
discussion that has already taken place regarding its ethical implications.
