Think of it as psychical interferometry; a method by which alternative
histories- subjunctives- might be resolved in the interference pattern
of the here and now. Being only one true path- the actual chain- that has
led to this particular present, how do we know if there were ever truly
alternatives? How can we just barely make out the ghostly influence of
those paths not taken but somehow available?

If everything is predestined, there is no such thing as information. It
is unnecessary. There is perfect communication of effect. Information
exists only when there is a potential for error. There is no flow of info
where there is no uncertainty. In a perfectly predestined universe, time
is an illusion. For Augustine, Satan was the only hope, and he failed.

And yet, some things happen and some things don't, but everyone has
experienced deja vous.
