Indeed! Pynchon has been very successful with this character, necessarily
unreliable and therefor great in entertaining his audience & us, the
readers.

By the way I don't think that _M&D_ can be definitely considered as anti-
this or that. It's not anti-Catholic or anti-jesuit, but as Terrance (and
Mutualcode) say reflecting or "satirizing the absurd paranoid anti-jesuit
and anti-Catholic politics" of those days.
