Throughout Shakespeare, jealousy is referred to as "the green-eyed monster". See Oth. iii. iii. 166 "Oh, beware my Lord, of ielousie, It is the greene-ey'd Monster." 
Also: Merch. V. iii. ii. 110 "Shuddring feare, and greene-eyed ielousie".
Also: R. and J. ii. ii. "Her vestal livery is but sick and green" (referring to the envious moon).
