dispute, controversy; the ancients considered the
liver the seat of love; thus "Hepatomachy" might very
well be "romantic intrigues"

Though I'm with those here who read that as, say, "war
with one's liver," i.e., as putting the "toxic" (!) in
"intoxication" ...
