I heartilly endorse David Morris' Nicholas Payton reccomendation.  I saw
him play last year and he was terrific.  Do not be deterred by the hype
that his recent album is a "tribute" to Louis Armstrong. Yes it is called
"Dear Louis, " but the music is original, modern and wonderful.

And for all the bad press he's gotten, I still think Wynton Marselis is a
fabulous trumpet player.  Check out "The Marciac Suite" or "Live at the
Village Vanguard"

And like lorentzen-nicklaus's statement of  "come to love the trumpet
more and more" I've been falling in love with the sound of trombones
lately.  Check out Steve Turre.  I had the chance to see him perform last
month and he really brought down the house.
