Zagruder film v. the WTC

What I remember most vividly about the endless
recycling of WTC images is/was the pellucidly blue
sky. I'm not sure if it was as clear when Kennedy's
head exploded on the Zagruder film, do you recall?
But I think so. That's what my memory recorded,
at any rate.
Metaphors can work on many levels and I guess the
better ones work on more levels. It's never a
perfect fit, I guess, except for the true believer.
But there might be more to the correspondence
between Kennedy's head and the WTC than just
the blue sky. There's something about the effects of
certain policies coming back to roost, blown
back by an ill wind to set the national tranquility
aflutter, a ghostliness hovering just beyond the
t.v. screen. Maybe they are both metaphors for
the danger of taking metaphorical thinking too literally.
There are many differences, though, and it
wouldn't do to stretch the comparison too far.
Still, I'm reminded of Mason's father recounting
the breadmaking process, from field to rising loaf,
and Mason's fear of the potential for the bread
to attract and harbor an unwanted spirit- some
ill-begotten agency seeking incarnaton- as much
within himself, I suppose, as the warm loaf.
