Perhaps the only thing that may or may not be accurate
here, on relection, is this putative anxiety over what
Pynchon might or might not have said. Seems the issue
is, in the first indtance, more who posted it,
although I suspect your (and others') tone(s) would be
different had Pynchon come out clearly in favor of
"America's President" and his pursuit of "Evil" et
al., so ...

... but what virtually none of what has been posted
SAVE by Doug has not engaged with is, ironically (?),
the text istelf. Much less have you, or Paul, or
David, or ... even indicated a willingness, much less
an attempt, to answer even the very questions you all
raise.

Maybe Pynchon didn't make those remarks; maybe he did,
but didn't intend them to be published; maybe whatever
was, or even wasn't, said, was either inadequately
translated into Japanese or back into English or both
(though I suspect that that "rodeo clown" strongly
indicates some actually English, perhaps even actually
Pynchonian, substratum there), but the burden of proof
here is on those raising these questions.

So get to work, gentlemen. Although I'd just as soon
jbor focus on the very valuable service he has been
providing here, that is, keeping the Mason & Dixon
reading going. Do hope to join in soonly, given no
further distractions here ...
