Once again Doug tries to make the P-list all about him. The subject WAS the
authenticity and the content (or lack thereof) of the inteview, until Doug
turned it into "Pychon's critique of the US war." Then it became all about
Doug. But some (Monroe) tried to make it all about Doug even before this
turn. God knows why.

>I suspect a few of you are chagrined that Pynchon is not the gung ho
>supporter of Bush's war on Afghanistan that you'd like him to be and you'd
>like to tar him with the same anti-American brush that you've used on
>anybody who has dared to dissent from the herd mentality on this slaughter,
>but, with the exception of a couple of hard-headed reprobates you've
>refrained from an all-out assault on Pynchon for expressing these opinions
>(again, assuming it is Pynchon -- the real proof will come if he takes
>legal action against Playboy Japan, and I don't think anybody's heard a
>whisper about that yet), so you dump on your favorite targets instead.
>It's childish and predictable -- and indeed I predicted as much when John
>Krafft suggested that I share the interview with Pynchon-L. But I did
>share it, and proved the adage that no good deed goes unpunished. Still,
>I'm glad to be of service, lots of folks have expressed appreciation for
>the gesture. I'm content to let the serious Pynchon reader community run
>with it now, while you guys can continue the name-calling as long as you'd
>like. I still love you all anyway, and realize that behind even the
>angriest words onscreen there's a human soul with whom I could probably
>have a reasonable conversation if we met in person. So, no hard feelings,
>I know you're doing the best you can with what you've got. Keep up the
>good work on M&D, too.
