Okay, first off, all apologies for my scattershot
scatology here. "Friendly fire." Sorry. Vs. those
on the unfriendly end ...

But contrary to what the esteemed Mr. Morris says, no,
do note, I've repeatedly not taken our latest little
onlist donnybrook to be "all about Doug," though it's
obviously become more and more "about" him, and I've
no doubt that the initial and ongoing barrage of
questions regarding the authenticity, even the
existence, or, perhaps more understandably, the
adequacy of the translation and the circumstances
surrounding that interview stemmed in no small part
from the fact that it was Doug who first brought it to
our attention. For which he really should have been
thanked, by the way, so, thanks, Doug. Really, very
few to perhaps no one else here would have been
subjected to immediate abuse for simply pointing us to
something that might well be of interest. But do note
that Doug's most vocal detractors here sem to have no
less interest than he does in enlisting Pynchon
somehow in their own aesthetic, ideological,
political, whatever, agendas, or, at any rate, to
enlist him in their ongoing, er, "police action"
against Doug (when's that brutal P-List winter set in,
then?). Again, it takes at least two to tangle, and
Doug's dance card tends to be pretty full here. Me,
I'd encourage everybody here not to speculate too
wildly about information we simply don't have (though
jbor's hard at work on that for us, I'm sure), but ...
but I'm only halfway through the day's messages (and
that's just here), I still have things I'd like to
post, on M&D, plus some general interest items, and
... and, well, I'm also sure I'll spent the rest of
what little time I'll have the patience for responding
to less civil posts here, so ...
