P questions things, and is therefore ambivalent (even about questioning everything). I believe that Pynchon, like many intelligent people, is not so sure that the unexamined life would be such a bad thing.

  Isn't P.'s attitude towards LSD and drugs generally just simply ambivalent, as the most things in Pynchon's work? I think it's the way how you use it what makes the difference. Every remedy can also be a poison - it depends on the dose.
