that sci-fi opera

Hei, for the possible interest of those not in the know:

not surprisingly, it is Steve Weisenburger who has written
an article on the Ford Foundation application in which he
reveals as much as it is legally possible. The article came
out in _American Literature_ in 1990 or 1991 (anyone?).

As far as I remember, it surely was a genuine libretto that 
Pynchon had in mind. The article also unfolds interesting 
things re Pynchon's childhood and youth: our man starting 
to write stories at eight; living through phases like scifi, 
F Scott Fitzgerald and H James phases: as TRP self-reflects, 
vacillating between romanticism and classicism.
