Huck Finn is Twain's best book, one of the best American novels, no?
Jim makes me sad. Not the character, but all the Jims the character is
based on- sad that many of us didn't see Jim until Twain wrote the book
and made him visible- sort of. The art is good but not good enough.
It is interesting that Twain finished it after his reputation was firmly
established.
Twain reminded me of white rock 'n rollers who got rich and famous playing
and singing somebody else's music.
You know they should be glad.
