Five al-Qaida Members Arrested

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP)  Five suspected members of Osama bin Laden's 
al-Qaida network were arrested in a high-speed car chase as they tried to 
flee into a tribal area out of the government's reach disguised in women's 
burqas, officials said Thursday.

The five men were taken into custody Wednesday night outside Daoud Khel in 
Punjab province after they struck a pedestrian and police chased them, 
witnesses and officials said.

Interior Ministry officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed 
that some foreign nationals, including Arabs, were among the arrested men, 
who were not identified.

Witnesses in Daoud Khel reached by telephone said the car sped off after 
mowing down a pedestrian, who was hospitalized. Police chased the vehicle 
and arrested what appeared to be some women wearing burqas  the 
all-encompassing garment commonly worn by women in the area. When the burqas 
were removed, officials said, they turned out to be men.
