Africa really is the Dark Continent!

What's this about a Third World Trade Center? Damn, dude, you need to
stop and smell the proverbial roses--or would they constitute stink
pollution? I swoon over both light "pollution" and billowing
smokestacks. I consider them symbols of progress. I agree w/ Q about
the lights. I have a strong memory of pulling into Billings Montana
late at night, snow lightly dusting a landscape dark on one side and
glittering like a crystal palace on the other due to a gigantic
refinery. That refinery was like its own snowflake in the midst of all
that deep dark.

This "photograph" *is* a fake; however not the way you think it is. You
see the world is, in fact, perfectly flat, as Otto points out, but
furthermore, those DMSP sats are not equipped with cameras--they are
equipped with warheads. A-and this "photograph" is actually a CGI
representation from a targeting system sans reticulation. Now *that's*
what I call beauty, baby!

Ah yes, the esthetic pleasure of an artillery exchange, viewed as a
lightshow. The tachistic painting effect of small pieces of Afghan
schoolchildren clinging to offwhite walls in a faraway village after
another visit by our Nato allies. Seen from the plexiglass of a bomber
plane the rows of small eruptions are beauty itself. Let us not sully
our hands with joyless politics, when we can enjoy pure esthetic
pleasures with the Great Quail.
A theme for a JG Ballard story: World Trade Center seen as the mating of
dragonflies in a beehive.

And the people who go wow, see all the pretty lights and swoon over the
light pollution are the same people who used to admire billowing
smokestacks and see them as symbols of "progress", whatever that may be.
. Must be a composite picture, BTW
