I forgot to mention the alligator in V. (and the possibilities of reading
it in terms of the Algerian revolution, as I seem to recall Dave Monroe
putting into play some time ago, if I'm remembering correctly, it's been
awhile).
Pynchon has been dealing with this cosmic serpent-reptile motif/archetype
for a long time.
