As I noted, it's an interesting review:

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/07/12/1026185105711.html

The reviewer, Christopher Kremmer, spent several years in Afghanistan in the
early 1990s, as recounted in his own recent book _The Carpet Wars_ (Harper
Collins, 2002), which seems well worth picking up:

RISTOPHER

And I don't know about the _NYT_, _FAZ_ or _The Guardian_ (which is a
"corporate" newspaper too, isn't it?), but the so-called corporate media
here actually does give voice to a much broader spectrum of news and opinion
than either AlterNet, Z-Net or other, similar "alternative" gabfests, where
only one ideological viewpoint is ever permitted to be expressed.

Naomi Klein, Stanley Fish, Susan Sontag, even Noam Chomsky, each have their
articles and essays published in the corporate media. Over here the
government broadcaster aired that Michael Moore series, Pilger's docos ....

And a freelance book review ... ? The opinions expressed are the reviewer's,
surely, even more so than in op. ed. column? And this particular reviewer's
credentials should command respect.

As so often, the logic in the demur escapes me entirely ....
