Although the creation of Pennsylvania ended the Swedish nation which had
been created by Stuyvesant, the Swedes played essential roles in the
success
of Penn's Holy Experiment.

Penn's commissioners bought land along the Delaware from three Swedes
named Swanson, and
along the Schuylkill from two other Swedes named Cock and Rambo (all is
true, see
Soderland). This gave a rectangle two miles long and one mile wide, or
1280 acres, between the rivers. Holme based his grid plan of
Philadelphia on this rectangle.
