Zhang: "... anything may be hiding in there ... The Fountain of Youth, the
Seven Cities of Gold, the Other Eden, the Canyons of Black Obsidian, the
eight Immortals, the Victory over Death, the Defeat of the Wrathful Deities"

"the Canyons of Black Obsidian"

Apparently a West Coast Native American legend:

In "California Indian Shamanism" Floyd Buckskin tells of one belief of his
people, that quartz crystals to empower were gotten by diving into a falls,
where, in the pool below, you would meet a spirit (he says, perhaps a
mermaid) who would lead you to a cave where the crystal grew.

California Publications in American Archaeology and Ethnology_ 28: pp.

Perhaps linked to the legend of the lost civilisation of "Lemuria":

"On November 4, 1851 the Shasta Chiefs signed a Treaty of Peace with the
United States at Fort Jones, California. A barbecue was prepared to
celebrate. Strychnine was put in the beef and bread, and thousands of Shasta
Indians died. Then vigilantes burned every village, and killed the people.
Thirty women and about one hundred and seventy men survived this genocide.
The treaty with the Shasta Indians was never ratified by Congress.

Today the Shasta Indians are being told we do not exist. [...]"
