The point I  wanted to make it that, yes Pynchon is full of what I consider

If he is I have not seen any indication of it so far.
And those characters he creates which express
belief seem to do it inspite of themselves: Mexico,
Mason, evening Pudding and Pointsman, and in a 
less than successful or fulfilling way. There are
some who seem to embody faith without either
attempting to possess it or flee from the human
tendency to believe, e.g., Gwenhidwy and perhaps 
Dixon, yet "keep cool but care" is about the most
definitive message I've discerned.
