Indeed, it has been, sans all but the first introductory snip.  I intended 
this post to ex-hemp-plify the historian's craft.  Thus I did not try to 
present any argument pro or con about the subject's heroicism, as Dave's 
snips hint at.  A newspaper-writer might be obliged to incite entertainment 
thus.  I intended only to show how Pynchon has pegged historians.  Mt. 
Vernon's might be said to have crafted their history to sell to this new 
generation.  It is an art to do so without knowing craftiness.  Sincerity, 
care, is so important.
