He seems to fit, but I can't connect him to a ship
named Coventry. (but, prisons and ships are a major
theme in the novel, in fact, the novel begins with
ships and prisons) Interesting Captain.
Seems he and George Washington had quite a battle
over property. He seems to have inspired Franklin to
work on navigational problems of the day. Ben, always
thinking about how to make things safe and insured,
tells us that the wager (a big themes in this novel
too, insurance and wager) between Capatain Kennedy (a
passanger at the time) on board ship with the Captain
of the ship (can't recall his name) intrigued him and
he began immediately to consider how he might devise
some improved means of calculating the speed and
direction, weighting and so forth (the longitude
problem being another major theme or idea in this
novel) of ships. After nearly crashing at night,
Fraklin also started thinking about how to erect more
lighthouses in America.
I'm up in the Bronx today....and as they say....brain
stporming runs down hill...look out Brooklyn.
