To the degree that current events in France reflect the Cold War/power
politics/control and other issues that Pynchon returns to again and again,
I wouldn't find it annoying at all. As Dave Monroe and others have pointed
out Pynchon's text reverberate well with Baudelaire, the Surrealists, and a
number of other French cultural expressions; France is an important setting
for GR, provides lots of background for M&D; etc.  In the past, some
Pynchon-L participants have expressed some concern about not being able to
read French, but I wouldn't let that stop you -- I don't read German but
that doesn't mean our German correspondents should refrain from posting
links ot German material, after all.  Just be sure to connect the dots so
nobody feels excluded, I guess.
