Well, let's put it this way. Different approaches to
hosting, obviously. Some people, perhaps the more
vocal of you here, like to set out a three-course
dinner, appetizer, entree, dessert, coffee, some
bottles of wine, neat place settings and chairs around
a table, pleasant, witty, interesting conversation in
turn, whatever ...
Me, I'm pretty much all about hors d'ouvres
(outside-the-work, but, of course [French accent
there], "il n'y a pas de hors-d'oeuvre"), a buffet
table, maybe some cooking on the fly, party favors,
and an open bar. Grab chair or a sofa or a beanbag or
a cushion or a corner or a wall or whatever, bring
your own if you'd like, but, please, by all means,
help yourself, and mingle, mingle ...
Of course, I've said all this before, as well as the
following, that you and Rob (if I may ...), in
particular, deploy no less "extratextual" knowledge,
text, even, than I do, you just embed it, elide it,
marginalize it, perhaps, more than I do, is all.
Anyway, if anyone's curious as to why i post anything
in particular on anything in particular, feel free to
ask, and I'll answer to the extent that I can
(sometimes, things just "feel" right, is all) ...
I would note, by the way, that my inspiration here has
been Kai's (if I may capitalize him thus--let me know
...) particular way of justaposing Pynchonian text
with "extra/intertextual" material. And maybe the
point and click and see what you get "logic" (such as
it is) of the medium at hand itself. Not unrelated to
that of those Pynchonian texts "themselves," I'd
venture ...
Anyway, don't worry, you won't ahve to suffer my
hosting in the near future, at least, though I reserve
the right (such as it is) ...

Though I gotta ask about that "uptown." 'Zat vs.
"downtown"? and to what effect? Anyway, see y'all in
NYC, if and when I get there, whoever's still up for
it ...
