Maybe that's because artists have not been silent about these deaths
either. Although I think the comparison you make here is just as silly,
it is also false. Artists, particularly,  NYC artists, have not been
silent about AIDS deaths in Africa or anyplace else and they have not
been silent about the deaths of people in Iraq, either from the War with
Iran, with the USA, or the from UN or USA trade policies. I imagine this
is also true of in major art communities in Europe and Asia. 
The entire argument is nonsense. Artists were very busy immediately
after the September 11th massacre. They were not silent at all. There
were some attempts not to take advantage of the situation to promote,
but artists, from local poets and musicians to international pop stars
responded.
