Nobody should be hated because of his religious faith or political belief.
And the Church, Catholic or Protestant, is much better today than it has
been in pastime centuries. As an declared atheist I say our world of today
would be much worse without the daily work of millions of priests,
nuns/monks and laymen everywhere. But I agree with Rich that the mere fact
that there are such big organizations is problematic. It has always been my
opinion that the true believers have been opposing Hitler while the
organized churches had made themselves guilty.

I don't know if the Jesuit-question is at the core of M&D and I don't see
them presented negatively by Pynchon, more the contrary.
