If Dixon intended to punch him, why does he stop the punch? Clearly,
Dixon's intent is to pull the punch.
It's possible that Dixon intends the slave driver to run into his fist, but
Pynchon doesn't say anything about that. P does show Dixon pulling the
punch, however.
