In reverse order... the M&D reading will never end. joking of course... about one long or two short chapters a week til the end... V. and M&D have much in common... wish I had time to dive into that. But the current reading has been very good at times... a lot of participation. You came in a year too late for V. and COL49... but the archives are very good if you have the time.

I don't think anyone knows much about when TRP began to write but he was definetely writing in college.

I write for a living... but not fiction... that doesn't pay... anyway, your question: "i have been having writers block "

The best answer I know of, and it is real simple: Apply ass to chair. (to write, one sits and begins writing). Eventually you will have something you can use....

oh, I was a history major... and I did attempt to pick up a second masters in English lit... about halfway through I dropped out... I couldn't stand to hear one more fellow student start a sentence with "I feel..."

Good Luck
Sam

calling all Pynchonites! or anyone very, deeply, immersed, into early Pynchon....well...not that deep, but i was wondering if anybody knows at what age TRP started to write? and is Mortality and Mercy his first published story? does he have more that are not published....the reason i ask is because after reading the introduction to SL (which is very insightful) i was thinking about what i am going to write for my short story assignment in my Creative Writing class. since i have been having writers block for about two months, i am at a loss and wondered what TRP did to break it....or if any if his early work had any straight forward material in it, and nothing about spies or the army or intricate knowledge of other great massive obscure works or theories of entropy and heat death....etc.
speaking of writing, is anyone here an English major too? or write for a living? if so, can you give any tips to just starting somewhere, anywhere.....how do you even come up with an idea...and how do you think Pynchon came up with his? i am interested to see what you all think started some of the reasons why we talk on this so much!

  regards and best.

p.s. WHEN IS THE M&D READING OVER!!!!! I AM DYING FOR SOMETHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT!.......[not really mad]
