I read the passage in question to a friend today with no prior
discussion of the disagreement here, and asked him to describe
what image came into his head regarding the event. He laughed as I
read the face meets fist passage, and immediately replied, "Dixon
cold-cocked (sp?) him." When I spoke of the disagreement he rolled
his eyes and said, "A tooth could not be broken by the force of a
face meeting a passive fist. A passive fist would be pushed away
by the force of the face hitting it."
