Disagree with whatever else you want, I suppose, but
Doug's right here, I've been right here, though
perhaps it will take Thomas to reassert this as well
before it sinks in here, but ... 

But having more recently read the Robinson account of
this event, I was surprised at Pynchon's Dixon'
restraint here, but ... but restraint, albeit not
necessarily pacisfism, or even passivity (again, i'm
with terrance on Pynchon's chracaterization of dixo
here), it indeed is, at least by comparison with
standard Dixon lore ...

Okay, some clean-up to bat, then Chs. 40-41 ...
