   There was a talk about "Brotherhood of the Wolf",but if 
somebody gave prizes for films close to Pynchon'works last year winner would be 
"Mulholland Drive" by David Lynch.Lynch is #1 surreal filmmaker now ,and he 
uses his talent to create strange mixes of thriller and satire (just like TRP 
in "Vineland" ,for example).In "Mulholland Drive" you may find all his 
trademarks and enough links to TRP.There is an unclear conspiracy,Hollywod 
looks like some strange zone full of may be dead ,may be not characters ,and 
the main plotline brings thoughts about probable parallel world(like the world 
Prairie was talking about on p.334).This film is full  of eccentric but never 
episodic characters and makes strong impression on whether one likes it or 
not.Oscar goes to "A beautiful mind", I guess (and you may find influence from 
"GR" there,by the way),but "Mulholland Drive" is the most original film of 2001.
