I agree and what I mostly like about it is the way it is "hidden" in the
language, not openly told. Pynchon manages it to tell it really the way it
would have been told in the 18th century. Just think of the "Tristram
Shandy"-opening:
"(...) had minded what they were about when they begot me;
had they duly consider'd how much depended upon what they were then
doing;"-- the question is if the reader has in mind what they are doing ...

And maybe this answers Mason's question from Chap. 31:
"How are you fitting that in, among all the Obs and Social Visits?"
"Fitting whah' in...?"
