Yeah, and not to get too serious about this text, but, "one day to the next" 
implies a switching back and forth from vertical to horizontal.  Otherwise a 
*gradual* transition would have been implied.  Or maybe Pynchon just aint 
that precise with his words.  However, I will concede that his belly is 
nonviolent, so far...

I think a baby is precisely the implication.  I think Terrance has hit 
paydirt.
