   stingl's german translation (see page 913) avoids the problem by putting it as if the 
   original would speak of 'ev'ry place to which they came' which in german sounds like this: 
   "jeder ort, an den sie gekommen, jedes haus, das sie passiert, jede straße, die sie  
   überquert, dazu die kammlinien und bäche, wälder und lichtungen, allenthalben wasser, und der 
   drache beinahe sichtbar."
