 Princess telephone of terror. 

When the children attempt to help clean up a load of
garbage that has been dumped they discover the trash
is from their own households. 

The only integration that can occur in this repressive
environment is secretive.

Because Carl is no longer safe here, even as a fantasy
figure. 

But I imagine that his spirit has not been trashed by
the dumping. He may  return like some Freudian
repression to his home in Bolingbroke's dump where a
seven-foot ghost protects him from the fascists on the
Pynchon List.
