This is something that was recognized at the time.  I had friends with close 
ties to the CPUSA at the time.  They all recognized this problem then.  
Indeed, the division of Labor from revolutionary movements is something that 
has been fostered & encouraged by the ruling class since the nineteenth 
century.  The main problem with the so-called new left was just this 
tendency.  It is something that may never be overcome, since most workers in 
the USA believe in the myth of the classless society & the self-made man.
