When you combine the opinionatedness of all of us with the email medium you
end up with an awful lot of straw men arguing. I just don't see Pynchon
showing his hand regarding politics or literary criticism. Of course, both
are alive and well in his writing, but when lines start being drawn and
pigeons holed, I can rarely find it in the text. So many times people post a
quote from the text like it is just such an obvious example of their
favorite hobbyhorse and I just can't see it.
