It's not at all unusual to find one commentator or
another discounting the impact that class might have
in American society, especially in the mass media.  If
we're divided by class barriers, if opportunities re
limited because of class -- that undercuts the myth of
the American dream.  That's why Pynchon's class-based
analysis in the SL Intro is significant, imo.
