Thanks for refreshing my memory. I should have inserted the word "fiction"
into my statement.

And it really doesn't alter my contention. Pynchon had dropped off the
literary radar screen for over a decade, which leads me to suspect some
rather pedestrian/practical reasons for SL's appearance in 1984.
