As long as readers disagree on what "poorly written"
might mean, that's an open question; since it's a
purely subjective judgement, the question seems likely
to remain open indefinitely.

This thread certainly demonstrates how tenaciously 
P-listers will argue the superiority of their
particular rewrites of what Pynchon has presented on
his page.
