Novel-Gazing

>>>Perhaps action painting worked similarly to this, but a novel, a work
that is
the toil of, often, many years is, I think, far more controlled and
deliberate in its processes than what you describe above.<<<

Well, that's just because of the limitations of email communication, because
I do not for a minute believe that an author sits back without toil and has
some mystical revelation that writes the book for him or her. What I am
describing happens in large part because of the toil and deliberation. And
it fuels further toil and deliberation. And, also, I don't believe a reader
can experience transcendence, er.....I mean...uh....exceedence, by sitting
back and reading the words on the page. The reader, too, must put personal
effort into the reading to experience what I am describing. And it isn't a
subtle thing. It is powerful. It is difficult to talk about this stuff,
because there is so much bullshit associated with things that go beyond
ordinary ego-consciousness. And it is hard to find words to use that don't
have connotations that send the rationalists running for the thesaurus. But
the process that occurs when the.....let's call it inspiration.....kicks in
is pretty fucking amazing. And it is what makes great art, great art, and
not politics or economics. It is why art is essential.
