My understanding was that in his final year at Cornell Pynchon "audited"
(i.e. sat in on) some of Nabokov's lectures, which doesn't necessarily
contradict this reminiscence.
I also remember reading somewhere that Nabokov's wife recalled Pynchon's
handwriting.
