hi! long time listener, first time caller sorry to take you literary types into the mud with us mud-monkeys, but here goes... i read pynchon for the feeling that he imparts to his characters/scenes/stories as much as for his literary accumen...the chaotic, center not holding feeling of his books/stories. and as such a reader, i bring a bit of myself to each story/character. one of the things i do is to add music. probably a product of too many movie viewings, but i always imagine background music. a soundtrack. so, my big comment for this mailing list is this:for those of you familiar with Polly Jean Harvey, i hope you agree, and those of you who aren't, well...but i've always imagined Yuri-G to be Slothrup's theme song...there is an escalating chaos to the song which mirrors Slothrup's Progress...the obvious theme of the song...she acted in a movie not too long ago, and i imagine her as Rachel Owlglass or as Frenese...a Tom Waits song comes to mind, Bonzai Aphrodite...thats it for now, maybe more later...
