I wonder if Dave Monroe would agree that these excerpts are from a
particularly poor chapter of a consistently poor book.
A particular wonderful sentence--from the opening paragraphs of the chapter
cited above:
"Tempting as it may be, we ought perhaps resist reading the 'Introduction' as
the key to the stories which follow it. And, by way of one last confession,
it is now necessary to say that we [the joint authors] would find such a
reading very difficult, not having read those stories at the time of writing
this!"
Exclamation point theirs ...
